Blitzen D6525

Blitzen D6525

Blitzen and his sibling, Dancer, were rescued from a sad situation. He is adorable, curious, lovable and needs basic puppy training/socialization.

Update from his foster home: Blitzen is doing very well at his hero foster home. He is very sweet, social and playful with their dogs. Blitzen is curious, confident and very smart. He loves following his people around, learning home life and handling/cuddling. Blitzen will need a home with yard and experienced guardian with knowledge of cattle dog needs. He will be active and may need dog sport training. Soon he will go to puppy socials. Blitzen complains about being put in a crate – so if he is traveling in a crate, he will complain for a while – about 10 minutes. House-training is going well and he knows to use doggy door.

Update 12/25/18: Blitzen is now showing genetic impairment of deafness and possible vision. Per his foster home and brief exam with a vet. He seems to be deaf – noises do not attract his attention. There may be some frequencies that he can hear. We are waiting to take him for further testing. Also there are “stars” in his eyes, something that happens in the womb as the membranes are forming over the eyes. This is apparently not correctable and usually means that there is some impairment of his vision. The foster home feels he sees pretty well. He is hesitant around unfamiliar steps - and unfamiliar things, as though he's not seeing well enough to move forward confidently. Sometimes, if when holding something out for him, she have to wiggle it to get him to notice. They haven't pinned down if there are areas that he sees better or not but he sees well enough to run in the backyard, go on walks, play with toys, get water and food.  His brother's DNA test, shows pure Australian Cattle Dog.
