Guardian Assistance Program

Our Guardian Assist program is provided to help you find and place your beloved dog or cat into a new forever home, utilizing the Furry Friends Rescue and 1-800-save-a-pet.com websites (LOTS of traffic to these websites), advertising and adoption showcases.

Your animal needs to be social (people friendly), should be animal friendly and can be handled / petted. If you would like our assistance in this program, please call us at (510) 794-4703 or email us at: info@furryfriendsrescue.org.

If you're willing to participate in this program, you must:
  • Call us at (510) 794-4703 or email us at: info@furryfriendsrescue.org so we may contact you and schedule a time to meet. Do not bring animals to our adoption showcase unless a FFR volunteer contacts you to ensure that we have cage/floor space available and you have all medical records.
  • Bring all your vet records of current vaccinations, vet records, tests and spay/neuter. For cats we require proof of Combo Test, all shots and spay/neuter. Dogs must have DHPP, Bordatella & Rabies (4 mos. & older).
  • Transport animal to our "Adoption Showcase". To see adoption showcase locations, click here
  • You will be asked to sign our: Guardian Adoption Assistance Program Agreement and donate $25.00. Provide: a photo, a brief description, temperament, and a report of all his/her medical history. We will place the photo and description on our website in the Guardian Assist section.
  • You will be fully responsible for this animal at all times until they are adopted
  • You must screen all applications before placing the animal in a new home. Home visits are preferred.
  • Upon adoption, ask for a donation to FFR of $75 for dogs and $30 for cats from the adoptor to ensure a serious/true adoptor. Please give the name, address and phone # of the adoptor to Furry Friends Rescue.

Cats and Kittens

Thinking about giving up your cat or kittens? Please read this handout (PDF format) from our Guardian Assistance counselors.

For cats we require proof of Combo Test (negative), all vaccinations, must be healthy, on flea control product and spay/neutered. Your cat must live indoor fully to prevent spread (cross contamination) of contagious diseases, parasites & virus (distemper, HIV, FIP, Leuk, ringworm) to our home fostered indoor cat/kittens at cat adoption showcases. Virus can live on hard surface and fabric for weeks. In your home for 1 year.

Furry Friends Rescue will:

  • Post your animal on our Guardian Assist webpage which receives lots of traffic.
  • Guide or refer you to vets and no cost spay/neuter clinics. All animals must be vet examed, tested, vaccinated and spay/neuter prior to adoption.
  • Showcase the animal at one of our adoption showcases. For dogs we require that you be present at the showcase to help screen potential adoptors and to answer questions. For cats, your presence at a showcase is not necessary.
